Group Sessions at Springvale
Posted 8th March 2023
Young people have been attending the group sessions at Springvale, young people have been cooking, budgeting, problem-solving and planning the residential in the last few weeks. Young people have been building friendships and getting to know one another whilst working hard to complete some of their House Project modules.
Rosie, from the CLNM visited one group session and talked to the young people about the Care Leavers National Movement and how they can get involved so that their voices are heard. Tyler and Leah were introduced as the BRO CLNM reps (Well done both!) and talked about their visit to Scotland in January, they discussed with the other young people what issues were raised at this meeting. A big Well Done to Tyler for being chosen to be the North CLNM Rep!
To celebrate Pancake Day young people took turns in the kitchen to make their own Pancakes from scratch, choosing their own toppings. All young people got involved in this, splitting in to two groups to share the kitchen creating some very tasty pancakes! Also, in this session young people decided to research where they would like to visit for the group residential trip, looking at places in Wales, Blackpool and the Lake District. Hopefully we can choose our final destination soon!
Young people have been looking at problems they may face in their own tenancies within the group, this really supported young people to figure out who they would contact if this took place, and what would happen if they had an emergency in their property. This will be essential information as we are hoping to have some young people moving into their properties soon!

Young people tell us that the House Project approach helps significantly, but we should never underestimate the enormous challenges they face at such a critical time in their lives. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.
