Oldham, Rochdale and Bury House Project, is the first collaborative house project, with young people from 3 different boroughs of Greater Manchester coming together to form one house project community.

Oldham, Rochdale and Bury became a house project in March 2022, after young people successfully pitched to Senior Leaders within their local authorities. We work closely with Manchester and Trafford project, and Tameside and Stockport project to form the Greater Manchester projects, and pride ourselves on our community focussed collaborative approach.

About our project

At our house project, we aim to support care experienced young people as they make transitions to independence and adulthood by helping them to:

  • develop a community of support
  • gain essential skills for independent living
  • move-into their own property and make it their home

Our first cohort started in November 2022, and we look forward to supporting all our young people with the adventures, challenges and successes in the year to come!

How it will help young people?

The House Project enables young people to develop a community of support, it provides them with a good home to live in and gives them control over their life, and their future.

The House Project supports young people to gain skills and have experiences that develop their Ownership, Responsibility, Community, a Home, Independence, Direction, and a Sense of well-being (or ORCHIDS for short).

How it fits with pathways for young people leaving care?

The Oldham, Rochdale and Bury House Project, a partnership between the council and The National House Project, is designed to help care leavers through one of the most difficult periods in their lives and to give them the skills and confidence to build a life for themselves after leaving care.

The House Project takes a ground-breaking approach through its commitment to young people’s ownership to enable young people leaving care to achieve successful independence.

What do young people think?

As a founder of the house project in Oldham, Rochdale and Bury, I am extremely proud to be part of ‘changing the narrative’ and providing better opportunities for young people leaving care. Let’s keep up the good work and making a difference for young people!
