Cohort 2 Graduation Event 2024

Cohort 2 Graduation Event 2024

Posted 9th July 2024

On Monday 1st July we celebrated our Cohort 2 Graduation, Young people, professionals, and family members attended the event to celebrate the achievements of our young people. Young people were presented with their AQA certificates by the Mayor of Rochdale who happily welcomed young people to collect their awards with big smiles on their faces. Our CLNM rep Mahan delivered his speech about his own experience of working with House Project and there were some teary eyes in the building!

We were also pleased to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress of Bury to our event, and Councillor Massey, Young people were excited to chat with them and share their own experiences. We also had Reels of motion filming and discussing with young people their journeys with House Project, with our young person Helenor behind the camera at some points. The buffet and BBQ was opened, everyone tucked into some delicious food and cake. This gave everyone opportunity to celebrate the young people, and network with one another from different local authorities.

Young people were ready to party after this, the karaoke machine and wigs were out, and we heard Adam’s rendition of Whitney. Young people said Goodbye to the professionals and friends, and spent time chatting with one another, showing the strong relationships they have built with each other and House Project staff since they joined us! It was a fantastic night, and we are so proud of all of our lovely young people, we cannot wait to continue working with them and supporting them on their Independence journeys! Well done to our Cohort 2 Class of 2024!

Young people tell us that the House Project approach helps significantly, but we should never underestimate the enormous challenges they face at such a critical time in their lives. This reality was brought home to us recently with Sue’s decision to swap her working life at NHP for retirement caring for her new granddaughter two days a week. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.
