CLNM : BURY, ROCHDALE & OLDHAM HEAD TO SCOTLAND
Posted 7th February 2023
On Saturday 21st January 2023, our 2 newly elected Care Leavers National Movement (CLNM) Reps: Tyler and Leah took a trip to Scotland for their first CLNM meeting. They were accompanied by Amelia, our BRO Facilitator for their first visit, and they all boarded the train from Manchester Piccadilly to Fyfe in Scotland.
Despite the lengthy journey with Tyler navigating the way, everybody was excited as none of them had ever visited Scotland before. Tyler and Leah chatted and listened to music as they got to know one another, whilst taking pictures and enjoying the breath-taking views!
Even a delayed train did not stop them from arriving at the meeting in time for Pizza, Tyler and Leah were introduced to the other CLNM reps and it was nice for them to meet reps from other House Projects in Lancashire, Manchester and Trafford, Midlothian and Fyfe, and really getting to know one another.
Facilitators left the young people with their new CLNM rep community to attend their meeting to discuss what the CLNM role is, their responsibilities and what they would like to happen in the future.
Tyler and Leah stated they enjoyed the meeting and are now in a group chat with all the young people who attended. Both the young people really enjoyed the experience and would love the opportunity to explore around Scotland next time when visiting. They are thrilled to be a part of the CLNM and are proud to be representing care leavers and making sure their voices and opinions are heard. They cannot wait to share their views and make a positive change for the future!

Young people tell us that the House Project approach helps significantly, but we should never underestimate the enormous challenges they face at such a critical time in their lives. This reality was brought home to us recently with Sue’s decision to swap her working life at NHP for retirement caring for her new granddaughter two days a week. Even though Sue is fully in control of this decision-making process - something our young people often are not - the transition has still been discombobulating; letting go of something she enjoys and that has defined her, and moving on to something that will be incredibly rewarding and joyous.

This past year has been one of growth and recognition. We moved into a vibrant new office space, welcomed new talent to our team, formed exciting new partnerships, and continued to evolve as a learning organisation. National awards acknowledged our work, but our proudest achievements remain the deep, authentic relationships we’ve built and the sense of belonging that defines everything we do.
